HDMI DVD Bargain
Over the weekend, i was looking for a better value in [tag-tec]HDMI DVD players [/tag-tec]that have HDMI output. So I went over to Courts in Tampines and took a look at close to a dozen available models. Before i went there, i made a research and had the following list of features that I wanted:
1. HDMI output with cable
2. Up converter
3. Formats played DVD, WMA, Divx etc
4. USB port
5. Price
After eliminating the models that did not have HDMI output, and the DVD recorders, and the other players that was not able to play WMA formats, i finally whittled down my choices to two models. One was by Philips and the other one was by Panasonic. Philips was selling at 200 sing, while the panasonic was selling at 202 sing.
The philips had a USB port, but did not have the SVIdeo out that i needed for encoding purposes. The Panasonic had the SVIDEO out, but did not have the USB port. I had my heart set out for the Panasonic as the SVideo was more important to me than the USB port feature. I just had to make sure that the system included the HDMI cables.
So I went over to the Panasonic display and talked to the guy in charge there. I asked a simple question: “Does this model come with the HDMI cable?” The panasonic guy answered with a curt “No”. I was told that I had to buy it separately, at almost 120 sing!
But i countered, that the Philips model had an HDMI cable included! To which the Panasonic guy’s response was “Then go buy the Philips model!”. Hmm. this guy was rude and lacked training in customer care.
So I took his advice to buy the competitor’s product! Philips should be paying this Panasonic guy for helping sell its products!
I took it home and set it up. It was fantastic! The video from the HDMI output to the HDMI input of the TV was fantastic!
I figured that with the cost of an HDMI cable at 120 or more, the player actually cost me less than 80 Sing! This is what i call a bargain!
