Telcos are eavesdropping. Is this fair?
I know business is bad, but i hope not that bad that the following rumor is true?
These telco/s is/are tapping into the lines at Bitstop Internet Service E1/R2s to find out the numbers of all Bitstop subscribers and Nitro card users. These telco/s then generate a report of that contains all the numbers that dialed up into Bitstop. They then use this to make DSL offers to the people whose numbers are on that list.
Adding insult to injury, the telco people insinuate that the users will be double billed. Once for the telco and another for Bitstop. However, if they decide to switch, they will be billed only once.
Funny that they could say this, when in fact, ISPs are prevented from owning the last mile. I wonder how the public would react to such a scenario? Shades of “hello garci”?

How desperate. This is not just an issue of business ethics but more importantly the right to privacy of the subscriber. Whether true or not, it sends chills to my spine. The possibilities are endless and scary. Can we do something about this on the technical level re: encryption of data? I know it would be hard to catch them redhanded so lets try by preventing them to do so. An info campaign could be effective also, to let them know that we know.
Well, I just hope people won’t fall into the “double billing” trap. It is not only adding insult to injury, but insult to intelligence. If you are an intelligent consumer and given this service proposal.. you will immediately sense something fishy about it. May these telcos stumble into some client who will give them a real lashing.

Local Telcos Eavesdropping on ISPs?…
Readers who have seen my PLDT Purgatory know I’m inclined to believe Philippine telcos are capable of stooping this low, but even I’d give them the benefit of the doubt on a rumor this nasty. What’s going on here?…
